Who This Is For

Supporting young people through it all

The teenage years are filled with pressure, identity, and rapid change. Many young people carry a lot, anxiety, self-doubt, trauma, or the weight of simply trying to figure out who they are. Therapy gives them a space that's entirely theirs.

Our adolescent therapists are skilled at building genuine rapport with young people, moving at their pace, and using approaches that actually feel relevant to their lives. We don't talk down to teenagers, we meet them where they are.

We are fully LGBTIQI+ affirming and welcome young people of all identities, backgrounds, and experiences. No issue is too small, too big, or too complicated.

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Depression and low mood

What to Expect

How adolescent therapy works

1

First session

No pressure to share everything at once. Your therapist introduces how sessions work, explains confidentiality clearly, and simply gets to know your young person. It's low-key by design.

2

Building the relationship

The most important thing is that your teenager feels genuinely safe. Sessions are led by what they need, not a fixed agenda. Rapport comes first; the deeper work follows.

3

Working toward goals

As trust builds, sessions go deeper, developing skills, processing experiences, and building resilience for whatever comes next in your young person's life.

FAQ

Common questions

Does my teenager need to want to come to therapy?

Ideally, yes, therapy works best when a young person is at least open to the process. We can work at a pace that feels manageable and non-threatening, and therapists are experienced at building rapport with young people who are hesitant.

Will my teenager's sessions be confidential?

Yes, within legal and safety limits. Your therapist will explain confidentiality clearly to your teenager at the outset so they know exactly what is and isn't shared, this is important for trust.

Do parents meet with the therapist?

Parent involvement depends on the young person's age and what's clinically appropriate. Your therapist will discuss this openly with you and your teen, usually a mix of individual sessions and occasional parent check-ins.

What age group is adolescent therapy for?

We typically work with young people aged 12 to 25 in our adolescent and young adult programs, though this can be flexible based on individual needs and developmental stage.

Can teenagers access Medicare rebates?

Yes. Young people with a Mental Health Care Plan from their GP are eligible for Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. We can help guide you through this process.
