Who This Is For
You don't need a crisis to start therapy
Individual therapy is for anyone who wants to better understand themselves, work through difficult experiences, or simply feel more like themselves again. You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis, curiosity is enough to start.
We work with adults of all ages, backgrounds, and life situations. Whether you're dealing with something specific, trauma, anxiety, grief, relationship patterns, or a general sense that things aren't quite right, we're here for that.
Sessions are 50–55 minutes, available in person at our Creswick or Brisbane clinics, or via secure video anywhere in Australia. The pace and focus is guided entirely by you.

What to Expect
How individual therapy works at Bloom
Your first session
The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. Your therapist will ask about what's brought you in, your history, and what you're hoping for. You set the pace, nothing is rushed, and you won't be asked to share anything you're not ready for.
Finding your approach
After your first session, your therapist will talk with you about what approach or combination of approaches might suit you best. This could include EMDR, ACT, somatic work, or others, explained clearly and always with your input.
Ongoing and at your pace
Sessions are typically weekly or fortnightly, though we work with whatever frequency suits your life. Therapy continues for as long as it's useful, some people come for a handful of sessions, others for ongoing monthly check-ins.

Common questions about individual therapy
How long does individual therapy take?
There's no set number of sessions, therapy is as long or as short as you need it to be. Some people come for 6–10 sessions to work through something specific. Others find ongoing monthly sessions valuable for longer-term support. We'll talk about this together as we go.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. Your therapist will ask about what's brought you to therapy, your history, and what you're hoping for. You're not expected to share anything you're not ready for. It's also a chance for you to get a feel for how we work and ask any questions.
Do I need a referral or a diagnosis?
No referral is needed to book. If you'd like to access Medicare rebates, you'll need a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, but this takes about 20 minutes and your GP can usually arrange it the same week. You do not need a diagnosis of any kind to start therapy.
Can I do individual therapy online?
Yes, all of our therapists offer telehealth sessions via secure video. Many clients find online therapy just as effective as in-person, and it means you can access our team from anywhere in Australia. Some modalities like EMDR are fully compatible with telehealth.
What if I don't click with my therapist?
The therapeutic relationship matters more than any particular technique, if it doesn't feel right, please tell us. We'd rather help you find a better fit than have you drop out of therapy altogether. It's not a failure on anyone's part, it's just how it works sometimes.
