Affirming Your Identity

Therapy without the pressure to mask

Autism affirming therapy is grounded in the understanding that being Autistic is a natural part of human diversity. Our therapists work from this foundation, adapting their approach to how you communicate and process information.

Many Autistic people come to therapy carrying the weight of years of masking, suppressing natural behaviours to fit in. This is exhausting, and it's often connected to burnout, anxiety, and a fragmented sense of self. We support the unmasking process with care and at a pace that's right for you.

We support Autistic adults and young people, including those who received a late diagnosis and are still making sense of their history.

Our Approach

How we work with you

Autism affirming

We approach Autism as a natural part of human diversity, not a disorder to overcome. Therapy here won't ask you to suppress, mask, or become someone you're not.

Burnout recovery

Autistic burnout is real, and often the thing that brings people to therapy. We understand the signs, the causes, and how to support recovery at a pace that's right for you.

Trauma-informed

Many Autistic people have experienced trauma from environments that weren't built for them. We make space for that history as part of understanding who you are now.

Adapted communication

We adapt how we work to suit how you communicate and process. Sessions can be structured or flexible, direct or exploratory, depending on what works best for you.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

What does 'autism-affirming' actually mean in practice?

It means we don't treat autism as something to be fixed or reduced. We work from a neurodiversity perspective — your neurology is a difference, not a disorder. Sessions focus on wellbeing, self-understanding, and navigating a world that isn't always designed for autistic people, not on making you appear more neurotypical.

I'm not sure if I'm autistic. Can I still access this kind of therapy?

Absolutely. Many people come to therapy exploring a possible diagnosis, or recognising autistic traits without a formal assessment. You don't need a confirmed diagnosis to work with us — we start with your experience and go from there.

I've had bad experiences with therapists who tried to change me. How is this different?

We understand that fear. Historically, many autistic people have been put through therapy aimed at reducing autistic traits — and that has caused harm. Our approach is the opposite. We're here to support you, not shape you into someone different. Your autistic self is welcome here.

Is autism-affirming therapy only for children?

No. We work with adolescents and adults. In fact, many autistic adults — especially those diagnosed later in life — have a lot to process around identity, relationships, burnout, and years of masking. Therapy for adults is just as valid and valuable.
