Anxiety is not a personality flaw. It is your nervous system flagging that something feels unsafe, even when the original reason for that signal no longer fits your life. For some people it shows up as racing thoughts or constant worry. For others it lives in the body as tight shoulders, a churning stomach, broken sleep, or panic that seems to come from nowhere.

Untreated anxiety tends to shrink the world. You stop doing the things that set it off. You avoid the conversations, the meetings, the social events. The avoidance brings short-term relief but slowly reinforces the message that those things are dangerous, and anxiety grows.

Therapy works because it teaches your nervous system, with evidence and repetition, that the threat is not what it once was. Some of that is cognitive. Much of it is somatic, working with the body to interrupt the survival response. For many people, especially those with anxiety linked to past trauma, the deeper work involves processing what the nervous system is still bracing against.

We start by mapping what anxiety actually does in your life. When does it spike, what comes before it, what does the body do, what thoughts run, what avoidance has built up. This is not endless analysis. It is the foundation for choosing the right tools.

Build regulation skills

Practical, evidence-based skills for working with the nervous system in real time. Grounding, breath work, cognitive reframing, defusion from anxious thoughts, and graded exposure to the things anxiety has shrunk. Most clients notice meaningful change in this phase.

Address the root

For many people anxiety is the surface, not the source. If there is unresolved trauma, attachment injury, or a long history of being unsafe in relationships, deeper work with EMDR or schema-based approaches can help anxiety settle in a more lasting way.

Common questions

Do I need a referral or diagnosis to start anxiety therapy?

No. You can book directly without a referral or any formal diagnosis. If you would like to claim a Medicare rebate, your GP can prepare a Mental Health Care Plan in a standard appointment, but this is not required to begin therapy.

How long does anxiety therapy take?

For straightforward anxiety many clients notice meaningful change in 6 to 12 sessions. If anxiety is tangled up with trauma, complex grief, or long-standing relational patterns, deeper work generally takes longer. Your therapist will discuss a treatment plan with you and review progress regularly.

Do you see teenagers and children with anxiety?

Yes. Several of our therapists work with children and adolescents, including school refusal, separation anxiety, and social anxiety. Parent involvement is often part of the work for younger children. Telehealth is available for teens who prefer it.

Can I claim a Medicare rebate?

Yes. With a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, eligible sessions with our registered therapists attract a Medicare rebate. The Mental Health Care Plan currently allows up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year with rebate.
